To be eligible to join The Transport Credit Union, you need to be employed currently, within the UK transport industry – this is our Common Bond.
We are not here just to provide loans; we want to help our members learn healthy saving habits and as such, new members should be able to commit to saving a regular amount with the Credit Union. If you don’t feel you can do this at this time, we might not be the best option for you. Feel free to have a chat with our friendly team if this is a worry for you.
If you are employed by one of our payroll partners, you will be able to pay in directly from your wage. If not, payments will be made via your bank, at a date of your choice. To check whether your employer is already a payroll partner; please have a look here
You can complete the application, online here, via our posted form or in person at our head office 186 Argyle Street, Glasgow, G2 8HA. Please note you can also complete this form by downloading and completing the Membership Pack.
We may also need to ask you for some documents to prove employment, ID and address.
If you wish to visit the office to join, please remember to bring two forms of identification with you.
You can apply to borrow your first loan at the same time as joining.
Here’s a general guide to help you through your joining journey
1. Eligibility / Membership Criteria – you must be aged 18 or older and currently work within the UK transport industry.
To check whether your employer is already a payroll partner; please have a look here.
If you do not work for one of our payroll partners, don’t worry you can still join; we will just need you to provide proof of employment via your most recent wage slip or copy of contract of employment, showing your name, employer name & start date.
2. Gather Required ID & Address Documents – We will carry out an electronic ID check when we receive your membership application; this is not a credit check and will leave no adverse foot print on your credit file.
If successful we will ask for a copy of valid identification, such as a driver’s licence or passport and proof of residency (dated within last 3 months). See list of acceptable documents here.
If your ID check is unsuccessful, we may need to ask you to provide an original document for proof of address.
3. Make a Initial Deposit – To be an active member, you need to have at least £1 in your standard shares account. Once your first payment has been received, your account will be active and you will be eligible to receive any loan payment due.
